In a time where a “click” is enough to start a relationship on any social media without worrying about how much we have in common with other people, the question of meeting the “foreigner” assumes a fundamental importance that too often clashes with the "cultural integration".
If, sometime, the superficial knowledge of the other still allows the beginning of a relationship, in other cases it translates into a condition of absolute distrust.
The origin of each one of us hides a story, an identity, a trace of human being that allows us to distinguish an individual, a group, a culture.
The identity represents, therefore, the synthesis of customs and traditions that refer to a collective story that is not always easy to understand.
Often, we are led to perceive the other person as a stranger, as an individual radically different from us only because the colour of the skin, the features of the face, the clothing are translated into prejudices that end up becoming insurmountable barriers.
Music, on the other hand, is an expression of the culture and soul of people, it has the power to point out the connections between seemingly distant countries.
“Island tales” comes from this power of music, getting its origins from Arab, African and Andalusian themes that we can find in Sicilian culture, which, elaborated and mixed with modern sounds, give life to a real alternative musical current.
Recognizing the differences between cultures, with a mental flexibility to learn and tolerate, to achieve relative enrichment is the solution for an integration through which the system acquires and maintains a structural and functional harmony, while maintaining the differences of the elements.
I am sure music is, among the artistic disciplines, the best system of integration, as well as the most immediate tool of knowledge.

In un’epoca in cui basta un “click” per iniziare una qualsiasi relazione su una
qualunque piattaforma social senza preoccuparsi di quanto abbiamo in comune con l’altra
persona, il problema dell’incontro con lo straniero assume una rilevanza fondamentale che
troppo spesso stride con la tanto ricercata “integrazione culturale”.
Se da un lato la superficiale conoscenza dell’altro permette comunque l’inizio di una
relazione, in altri casi si traduce in una condizione di diffidenza assoluta.
L’origine di ognuno di noi nasconde una storia, un’identità, una traccia dell’essere che
permette di distinguere un individuo, un gruppo, una cultura.
L’identità rappresenta, quindi, la sintesi di usi, costumi e tradizioni che rinviano a una
trama collettiva che non è sempre di facile comprensione.
Spesso si è indotti a percepire un nostro simile come un estraneo, come un individuo
radicalmente diverso da noi solo perché il colore della pelle, i tratti del volto,
l’abbigliamento si traducono in pregiudizi che finiscono per diventare barriere
insormontabili.
La musica invece, in quanto espressione della cultura e dell’anima di un popolo, ha il
potere di svelare le connessioni esistenti tra paesi apparentemente lontani.
Island tales attinge proprio da questo potere della musica, traendo le sue origini da
tematiche arabe, africane e andaluse presenti nella cultura siciliana, che, elaborate e
miscelate a sonorità moderne, danno vita ad una vera e propria corrente musicale
alternativa.
Riconoscere il diverso, il reciproco arricchimento, la disponibilità mentale
all'apprendimento e alla tolleranza, è la soluzione per un'integrazione attraverso la quale il
sistema acquista e conserva un'unità strutturale e funzionale, pur mantenendo la
differenziazione degli elementi.
Sono convinto che la musica sia, tra le discipline artistiche, il miglior sistema di
integrazione, nonché il più immediato veicolo di conoscenza.
